about us and the work we do
We support women, birthing people, and families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum with evidence-based knowledge, practical guidance, and deep respect for individual needs and wants.
We know that birth is both an intimate experience and a major life transition, one that deserves thoughtful preparation and trusted support.
Our one-of-a-kind birth education blends modern insights with traditional wisdom from both Eastern and Western practices, offering an immersive in-person group workshops that includes yoga & breathwork and Traditional Chinese Medicine sessions by qualified practitioners.
We go beyond standard birth preparation, equipping you with practical tools, physiological understanding, and real world strategies to help you navigate labour and early parenthood feeling prepared and connected.
In addition to education, our collective of birth and postpartum doulas, are here to ensure you have continuity of care from pregnancy through the fourth trimester. Whether you’re planning a home birth or a hospital birth, we help you clarify your options, advocate for your choices, and experience birth in a way that aligns with your needs.
We are not just educators—we are active birth workers. Every lecturer and doula at Radiant Birth is in the field, supporting real families in birthing suites, homes, and during the transformative postpartum period. Our knowledge comes from lived experience, ensuring our teaching is practical, relevant, and deeply informed by the realities of birth and life.
Meet Josie, Radiant Birth Owner, Mother & Doula
Josie Hipwell is the owner of Radiant Birth, a full-spectrum doula, and a mother of two.
Based in Melbourne’s north, her work is grounded in community, continuity of care and deep respect for the transformative nature of birth and motherhood.
Josie’s path into birth work unfolded through her own experiences of pregnancy, birth and matrescence, alongside a lifetime of holding space for others. After becoming a mother, she felt a clear calling to work in the birth space and became a qualified doula in 2021.
With a background in communications and a wide range of lived and professional experiences, Josie brings a calm, relational and embodied approach to her work. She offers birth and postpartum support, internal pelvic release work, maternal alignment and birth debriefing, and continues to deepen her practice through ongoing study and mentorship.
At the heart of Josie’s philosophy is the belief that there is no single right way to birth or mother. Her work supports people to feel informed, supported and safe to choose what feels right for them, as they move through the profound transitions of birth and early parenthood.
“Radiant Birth is a beautiful course to open the hearts and minds of pregnant women during their journey in pregnancy, birth and beyond. It’s the perfect course for the curious woman who may not even realise she needed or wanted to know about a more holistic approach. It’s a beautiful blend of movement, yoga, breathwork, and teachings. The book is brilliant and the additional resources and shared contacts are so generous and so helpful. There was nothing but love and care shared between teachers and Mummas throughout. I’m so grateful.”
